About the Role
Stan requires a support worker who can support him with his personal care, attending health and therapy appointments, and with activities of daily living and being safe.
Stan is very repetitive in his speech and will ask you the same questions frequently throughout the shift. He needs his support workers to support him positively with this and be tolerant and patient with him.
About ‘Stan’
Stan is a 70-year-old man who has a learning disability, Autism and mobility needs. He lives in his own home with his Stepmother who is 90 years of age.
Stan is very young at heart and likes to be out and about. He loves music and has a vast collection of vinyl records. His music knowledge dates back to the 1940’s and he will love to tell you all about it and play you music. He likes old time musicals and shows and is wanting to go out to record fairs.
Stan is very independent, but his mobility has declined in the last 12 months. He walks with a stick at home and uses a rollator when out. He needs his support worker to drive him to and support him with all of his appointments and also to the shops and leisure activities. He needs his support workers to ensure that activities are safe for him to complete and that any risks are assessed and managed appropriately.
As stated, Stan is very repetitive in his speech and can ask the same questions frequently. He has key topics of conversation, and he needs an understanding approach and support to move on from these topics.
Stan is a quintessential gentleman, and he likes to look smart. He will often choose to wear a shirt and tie and jacket. This is really important to him.
