Support Worker, Part-Time, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

When you join a team working with Ben Holden Ltd, you will receive excellent support from a specialist Case Manager and Registered Manager, access to exceptional training to develop your professional knowledge and expertise, and the benefit of forming a meaningful relationship with the person you will be working with, to make a real difference to their life.

We are looking for a support worker to work 15 hours a week (over 3 days), with ‘Stan’.

We anticipate the shift times will usually be 09.00-14.00 but the successful applicant will need to have flexibility to work different times depending on the needs of Stan (agreed in advance).

Stan would like support two days in the week and one day at the weekend (days will be flexible).

Monday to Friday – £17.00ph

Weekend hours – £18.00ph

About Stan

Stan is 69 years old and lives in his own home with his stepmother. Stan has a learning disability and communication difficulties and Autism.

Stan can mobilise independently but does use a walking stick and is a very slow walker. His mobility is becoming more difficult as he ages.

Stan would welcome the support worker’s approach to be one that encourages him to take a lead in directing the support, so that he remains as independent as possible rather than have support workers doing things for him.

Stan has a very active life. He is very sociable and is always out and about. Stan can use public transport but he needs his support worker to drive him to, and support him with, his activities and larger shopping activities such as clothes shopping.

He needs his support workers to ensure that activities are safe for him to complete and that any risks are assessed and managed appropriately.

Stan is currently working with an occupational therapist and a psychologist, and he will require his support team to work with him in line with his bespoke therapy care and treatment plans. Full training and supervision will be provided in this area.

The Roles and Responsibilities of the Job:

To support Stan with all areas of personal care, hygiene and grooming as requested and needed;
To support Stan with all aspects of mobilising;
To support with meal planning, food and drink preparations, and eating and drinking as per his bespoke food and drinking plan;
Encouraging Stan to be as independent as possible but being hands on to offer support and guidance;
To drive Stan to activities, health appointments and leisure pursuits and support him throughout the day. This will require the use of your car;
To support Stan to complete his therapy as per his bespoke therapy plans;
To support Stan to identify and plan activities that he may enjoy and attend with him if required;
To work in collaboration with Stan’s stepmother and communicate effectively with her;
To support Stan to problem-solve when situations are stressful or unfamiliar;
Assist with the organisation and planning of tasks such as making appointments and arranging maintenance;
To facilitate and follow risk management plans and inform the case manager of any concerns or changes required;
To follow all care, support, and therapy plans, and to feedback to the case manager any changes or updates that are needed;
To complete all necessary recordings and daily notes;
To support Stan’s stepmother with respite and be available to support Stan when the cover is required;
To complete all required training and attend team meetings and supervisions when arranged;
To follow all policy and procedures and agreed team policies.

Pay and Other Benefits

Monday to Friday – £17.00 per hour
Weekend hours – £18.00 per hour
5.6 weeks annual leave per annum (pro-rata)

Stan does not like smoking/vaping, so he would ask you not to smoke or vape whilst you are working with him.

Christa came to visit me numerous times in the Royal Free Hospital. Having assessed my needs, she organised repair of my wheelchair, hospital bed on my return home. Organised private physiotherapy and stay in care home. Once home, she came with me to private therapist in Harley Street.

Before I started working with Ben I was struggling with the everyday tasks e.g. getting myself dressed, walking any distance, lifting, getting in and out of bed, bending. Within six months, Ben and his team enabled me to do all these things and return to work gradually, which resulted in me being able to do my pre-injury job.

My life began to significantly change. Ben treated me with the upmost dignity and respect. He coordinated a team of professionals experienced in working with neurological disorders, especially with people who had experienced an accidental severe traumatic brain injury or through illness. I felt confident that Ben would and did manage to select professionals who he somehow knew would manage my challenging eccentric behaviour and complex needs.

It was very reassuring to know that Ben was always at the end of the phone. He was there when I needed him most. He always responded quickly and kept everybody involved well-informed of what was happening with Progress Reports.

I could trust Ben and felt reassured by his knowledge and patience. He has a great and appropriate sense of humour. I would highly recommend Ben to others who would surely benefit from his expertise.

Ben was very helpful and promptly organised a good local physiotherapist for me. There I was given exercises specific to my problem, along with acupuncture and massage. This was invaluable, as nothing had been offered to id my recovery by my local hospital. In addition, Ben organised a six-month gym membership at my local leisure centre.

I always found Ben easy to talk to and he regularly called to check on my progress. I would not hesitate to recommend Ben Holden td, who gave me a very friendly and professional service.
